Jesus didn’t get to his sick friend Lazarus in the nick of time before he died. The stone had been rolled shut across the tomb for four days by the time Jesus arrived and called his friend to “Come Out”!

If you have ever been to the Holy Lands, you can visit the tomb of Lazarus. But you don’t have to travel there to get a sense of the experience of being in the tomb. When we are in the “tombs” how we want Jesus to sit down beside us and hold our hands and to reassure us that everything is going to be ok.

Over time it is easy to become comfortable in our despair and with how things are --- maybe because we have come to prefer the misery we know to the mystery we do not.
