Worship with EBPC

June 8, 2025 Pentecost Sunday

“When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place” reads the scripture from the Book of Acts. On the day of Pentecost (celebrated as the ‘birthday’ of the church), differences were minimized as people came together seeing and hearing one another. What’s on Pastor John’s mind as he prepares the message? “It's a story for this time, this moment. We live in a world where words have become toxic, where the languages of so many cherished "isms" threaten to divide and destroy us.  The troubles of our day are many.  If we don't learn the art of speaking across the borders that currently separate us, I worry we will burn ourselves down to ash.” The Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated.

June 15, 2025, First Sunday after Pentecost and Father’s Day. EBPC Goes to the Movies

Summertime is a good time to relax. Yes, we know there are those who draw a clear distinction between the “sacred” and the “secular” thinking and that secular things have nothing to do with God. On this Sunday, we explore how God is revealed in the Disney classic “The Lion King.” The theme: “Remember Who You Are.” We think it is a good theme for Father’s Day and Pastor John and Nate are looking forward to sharing the message through spoken word and music from this Disney favorite. This will be a great service not only for Dads but for kids young and old. Fellowship time after the service.

June 22, 2025 Second Sunday after Pentecost

“Lord, teach us to pray.” Have you ever asked that? It’s what the disciples ask Jesus before he offers what we now know as the Lord’s Prayer. That question - I think it’s something we’ve all uttered at some time or another. This Sunday we begin a series happening over the summer on prayer. Pastor John has in mind all those who feel like “Prayer Failures,” thinking “Lord, I’m bad at this.” We have in mind those who, about prayer, wonder: “Lord, how is this supposed to work?” Or, “Lord, are you kidding me?” Or, “Lord, what difference is this really making?” They are all variations on the theme. We’ll think through what prayer really means and why we’re instructed to pray for those we might least want to, and how to keep praying when it seems to be doing nothing, and what to do when prayer just feels flat out impossible.
