We Can't Go Alone

Rev. John Hilley focuses on the text from Ruth 1 and Ecclesiastes Chapter 4: 9-12. These texts are more frequently read at wedding occasions than in the lead-up to Christmas but their message is relevant: the daring belief that our lives are better intertwined. In today’s message Pastor John looks at the lives of one Tennessee family against the backdrop of the story of Ruth and events currently happening in our nation. In particular, the United States vs. Skrmetti case was argued before the Supreme Court. The legislation advanced by a Tennessee State Senator representing the district where the church is located and the case argued affects the well being of transgender children and their families. Pastor John's message spends the first ten minutes talking about the story of Ruth and at the 10 minute mark moves to talking about a Tennessee family at the center of the court case as he takes us through some of the biblical, ethical, and pastoral issues regarding today's theme as he encouraged listeners to acknowledge the stories and value of people who are transgender and those of parents who are seeking to honor their spiritual and parental commitments to their children. Following the message, Musical Director Nate Strasser offers the song “Help Us Accept Each Other.” Visit our website  www.ebpctn.org to learn more of our values and about our work.
