“Who Are You Looking For?
This Sunday we’ll celebrate Jesus’ resurrection from the dead and his promises for us — that he will be with us always and that we will one day join him in the full presence of God along with those we love. The story of Jesus' resurrection is the center of the Christian gospel and of our faith as followers of Christ, but that story also tells us that the first disciples had trouble believing it. And perhaps you, too, have struggled with the tension between doubt and belief.
Given the recent tragic event in Nashville at our Presbyterian cousin church and school (Covenant), it is comforting to me that the Easter story begins with grief and confusion and doubt. Mary is the first to see the risen Christ, but she mistakes him for a gardener. It is only after he calls her by name that her eyes are opened, and she sees and believes. Thomas has to touch the wounds of the risen Jesus. That has me wondering about how each of our experiences with seeing and believing the good news of Jesus’ resurrection may be different. I hope you will join us on Sunday as we celebrate the good news of Jesus’ resurrection and seek to experience Jesus’ presence and power in our own lives. - Pastor John Hilley
